Game of Thrones will be returning to our screens with a prequel series in the not too distant future. From the mind of author George R.R. Martin, the series will be set thousands of years before the HBO epic and will star some of the Starks of legends. Could this mean Brandon the Builder will be in the show? Here’s what you need to know, including a clue you might have missed.

Will Brandon the Builder to appear in the Game of Thrones prequel?

The Game of Thrones prequel series has been the subject of much speculation since it was announced last year.

Created by author Martin and Jane Goldman, HBO has been keeping its cards close to its chest so far.

However, the network has revealed the plot for the new fantasy prequel.

According to HBO, it takes “place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones”.

The network wrote: “The series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.

“From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: It’s not the story we think we know.”

While no characters have been disclosed so far, the timeframe of the Age of Heroes hints at who could appear in the show.

One such character is Brandon the Builder, who was a legendary member of the First Men in the Age of Heroes.

Otherwise known as King Brandon Stark, the legendary leader was the founder of House Stark and the first Lord of Winterfell.

According to the mythology of the books, he is also told through legend to have built the Wall that protects the North with the aid of giants.

What’s more, he is said to have advised Durran during the building of Storm’s End when he was just a boy.

However, in A World of Ice and Fire author Martin revealed more about the nature of these legends.

He wrote: “The names of the kings of these earliest realms are caught up in legend, and the tales that claim their individual rules lasted hundreds of years are to be understood as errors and fantasies invented by others in later days. Names such as Brandon the Builder.”

Martin added: “It is likely that their legends hold less truth than fancy.”

Given that the synopsis of the prequel series aims to unpick “the Starks of legend,” revealing the real history of Brandon the Builder could be part of the show.

Also, Martin has revealed the Starks will be appearing in the series so it is highly possible that viewers will see Brandon in some form.

The author told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview: “The Starks will definitely be there.”

If the character is to appear in the fantasy series, it is not clear who will play him.

However, a number of actors have been cast in the HBO show, including John Simm, Josh Whitehouse and Jamie Campbell Bower.

The only character that information is known about is played by Naomi Watts, who HBO describes as “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”

Filming has begun on the Game of Thrones prequel series.
