Holly Willoughby Apologises To John Torode After Saying ‘yuck’ To His Meal

MasterChef presenter John Torode has revealed that neither he nor Gregg Wallace has ever been to each other’s houses.

Despite presenting the premier BBC cooking programme together for 18 years, John, 57, states that he and Gregg, 58, remain work colleagues before all else.

Speaking on Margie Nomura’s Desert Island Dishes podcast, John detailed his relationship with his co-star.

He stated: “We got on but we were work colleagues and we’ve always stayed work colleagues.”

When chef Margie queried if they were “categorically not friends” John stated that the pair were, but continued to question what “defines a friend”.

The 57-year-old stated: “I think you define a friend if you’re in a ditch one day and you’re really in the caca – you ring up and go ‘I need help’ – that’s a friend.

“Gregg would do that – so he’s a friend, don’t get me wrong.”

However, John revealed that the pair keep each other at arm’s length and that their friendship remains strictly professional.

“But I don’t go to the pub with him, we’ve both not been to each other’s houses,” he admitted before stating that Gregg “wouldn’t know where to put me.”

Margie prompted John for a reason – citing perhaps that Gregg had Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

John laughed and claimed: “He says he’s CDO because he wants it in the right order – that’s one of his favourite jokes.”

The chef further explained that the pair haven’t visited each other’s abodes because the Peckham-born presenter “wouldn’t know what to do”.

He said: “But he wouldn’t know where to put me and if he came to my house he wouldn’t know what to do. He’s got these behavioural things that he does and he knows what to do so you just let it go.”

However, John was quick to point out that despite the pair not personally being close, they still have a “great respect for each other”.

“To get to 20 years as a partnership – I mean, he’s done better than both my marriages, and I’ve done better than his others as well, so that’s alright.”

John and Gregg have both manned MasterChef since the show’s revival in 2005.

Last week, a new wave of famous faces were announced for this the next series of Celebrity MasterChef.

The forthcoming BBC show will feature the likes of Love Island’s Dani Dyer, Strictly’s Dianne Buswell and Max George from The Wanted.
