US Open 2023 LIVE: Day One updates with Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas out early in first major since bombshell LIV Golf-PGA Tour merger

Amateur Omar Morales from Mexico has the honor of hitting the first shot of the 123rd US Open. 

The 20-year-old plays collegiately at UCLA and qualified by shooting a 68 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California to advance to Hillcrest where he carded 130 to earn medalist honors.

Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau lead the big American names out early, while Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrell Hatton fly the flag for Europe. 

Thomas, Lowry and Fleetwood will tee off at 10.40am ET from the first, while DeCheambeau and Hatton, alongside Italy’s Francesco Molinari will tackle the back nine first at the same time. 

All eyes will later be on the all-American grouping of Collin MOrikawa, Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler at 11.13am ET and Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm 11 minutes later. 

Meanwhile, PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama have been afforded a lie in and won’t hit the course until 4.54pm ET.
