Iain Stirling has a theory behind why there are so many arguments among the Love Island cast on the ITV2 show.

The series commentator believes that the villa serves as a social experiment for a bunch of conventionally good-looking individuals, putting them in a situation where they are no longer the centre of attention and examining how they handle it.

Most Islanders crumble under the pressure, as Iain explained on Heart Radio today: "They’re all attractive young people and they just aren’t used to not being the most desirable person in the room.

"I think it’s quite an interesting psychological journey actually when you put loads of people who are the best-looking person and they’ve always been the best-looking person. And when you are the best-looking person, the way you’re treated is very different… there’s all this talk of privilege nowadays, handsome privilege is not recognised enough. So, it’s weird what they then have to go ‘well what am I if I’m not the best looking one?”

Iain’s comments make perfect sense in light of recent chaos in the villa, with Mitchel, Sammy and Zachariah all vying for one girl’s attention – Molly. For the past few nights, Molly has dominated much of the coverage as she explores her different connections, however, after Tyrique, Mitchell and Zachariah were all picked for a date, body language expert Darren Stanton revealed Molly Marsh felt ‘jealous’ and ‘feels threatened’ as she watched.

Viewers witnessed islander Molly peering through the balcony to watch Zach and Mitchel on their dates with the new bombshells and, speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, expert Darren says she showed signs of ‘jealousy’ and feeling ‘sidelined’. He added that Mitch was enjoying the fact Molly was watching him – as he "thrives off being liked and loved"- and said he had chemistry with Charlotte, but more sparks were flying between him and Leah.

He said: “The fact Molly was peering through the balcony for both Zach and Mitchel’s dates shows she is jealous and feels threatened.

“She also swore at the girls while telling them to be quiet, this signals she is also stressed in the situation and overthinking a lot of things. Her demeanour has changed very quickly from being happy and excited by the attention the boys have shown her, but now she feels jealous and sidelined.”

Spoilers for tonight’s episode see Mitchel reveals his game plan after picking on-off partner Molly at the recoupling despite their turbulent week and her budding romance with Zachariah. He says of his decision to couple up with Molly, saving her from a potential dumping: "I did that for my boy Zach, I didn’t do that for anyone else but Zach."

Gathered with the boys in the kitchen, he adds: "Friendship, I’ve got you boys!"
