Bargain Hunt: Anita Manning looks at a Golden Ticket
Bargain Hunt’s Anita Manning is fronting the BBC daytime series as she oversees the red and blue teams.
Hailing from Glasgow, she is claimed to be the first female auctioneer in Scotland.
She developed her love of antiques through her father, who used to take her to auctions with him.
The TV personality first got into the business in the 1970s, when she was offered a job as a buyer, having purchased a bed from an Irish dealer.
However, her career has taken some drastic turns over the years as she trained in a very different area.
She studied PE and specialised in dance before spending some time as a teacher.
Then, as a young mother who was married, she developed some insight into antiques by buying furniture for her family home from auctions.
She would go on to buy and sell antique furniture in England and Ireland for a few years, before launching a new company with her daughter, Lala.

She has been running Great Western Auctions in Glasgow with her daughter since 1989
The BBC explained: “When Anita’s daughter Lala left school, she and Anita went into business together.
“With Anita’s antiques knowledge and Lala’s business brain, they started Great Western Auctions in 1989 with a staff of just three.
“It has grown to be one of the major independent auctioneers in Scotland. She was Scotland’s first female auctioneer.”

Meanwhile, her son has lived in Hong Kong for more than 20 years, while her mother lived in Australia for the last 35 years of her life.
In 2015 she told The Sunday Post: “My mum, who sadly died last year, lived in Australia for 35 years and I used to make the long-haul trip Down Under every couple of years.
“She stayed in Melbourne and then a little seaside place near Sydney. Although we share the same language I was always taken by how different the place was.
“I used to love getting away and exploring the bush. But for somewhere totally different, there’s no beating Hong Kong.”
