Prince Harry attended his father's Coronation solo on Saturday, but left Westminster Abbey soon after the service had ended to fly back home to California.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were both invited to the King's Coronation on Saturday 6 May, however Meghan stayed at home in Montecito with their two children, Archie – whose fourth birthday fell on the same day – and daughter, one year old Lillibet.

Riding solo, Harry, 38, walked into Westminster Abbey alongside his cousins Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice and their husbands.

As he walked in, he nodded to guests and endured a lonely walk down the aisle to his seat in Westminster Abbey's third row.

During the service, Harry sat next to Eugenie's husband, Jack Brooksbank, who he is reportedly close with.

The pair were seen smiling and chatting together while waiting for King Charles and Camilla to arrive.

Harry wasted no time in leaving his father's coronation and immediately after the ceremony was picked up by a black vehicle from outside Westminster Abbey.

The same car was then seen escorted out of the city by a police motorcade heading straight to Heathrow Airport.

It comes after Harry appeared to indicate to Jack during a conversation in Westminster Abbey that he would be leaving straight after the service.

Lip reader Jacquie Presser told MailOnline that when Harry indicated with his thumb, he said the words "tomorrow" and "3.45pm".

She went on to say that their conversation appeared light-hearted with Harry possibly discussing an event taking place on Sunday.

Jacquie claimed the Duke smiled at Jack and said: "That’s funny, mmm, interesting".

To an unknown question from Jack, Harry reportedly replied: "About quarter to 4."

Jack replied: "Oh really, when?" to which Harry responded: "I think tomorrow…"

Another lip reader picked up the word "airport" in the conversations and believed Harry said to Jack: "I will be straight to the airport."

It was expected that Harry would make a quick exit and fly back to California so he could be with his wife, Meghan and children to celebrate Archie's fourth birthday, which was also on Saturday.

The flight time from Heathrow to Los Angeles is around 11 hours, meaning that if Harry left at around 4pm he could land by 7pm, giving him a small window to be with his son on his fourth birthday.

Meghan is likely to throw a low-key affair for her eldest child at their sprawling Montecito mansion, with some of their closest family and friends, as well as some of Archie's pals from pre-school.

Harry flew into the UK on Friday morning for his father's Coronation and left less than 48 hours later.

It was reported that Harry had been invited to the post Coronation lunch at Buckingham Palace, but was eager to return home instead.
