Pond life! Runaway driver is caught hiding in a pool using reeds for cover after leading police on 80mph chase through built-up streets
- Orges Hoxha, 24, failed to stop for police who tried to pull him over last month
- He has since been jailed for ten months and banned from driving for two years
A runaway driver, who led police on a terrifying high-speed chase last month, was caught hiding in a pond using reeds for cover.
Dash-cam footage shows the moment that soaking wet Orges Hoxha was pulled out from a pond after erratically driving away from police who tried to pull him over.
The 24-year-old failed to stop for officers in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, shorty before 8.30pm on February 27 this year.
He floored the accelerator and hit speeds in excess of 80mph as he desperately tried to get away in the 30mph speed zone.
Hoxha is shown to drive the Toyota Yaris on the wrong side of the road, overtaking other cars before eventually swerving into The Carrs nature reserve in Warsop, narrowly avoiding trees.

Stopping here, he is then said to have jumped out of his car before fleeing on foot.
An officer and police dog tracked Hoxha to a pond, where he was soon pulled from the water.
Hoxha, of Warsop, went on to admit dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, and driving without a license.
Hoxha was jailed for ten months and banned from driving for two years on Wednesday
He was jailed for ten months and banned from driving for two years at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
PC Jon Pinnick, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘We know all too well the tragic consequences of this kind of dangerous and reckless driving.
‘Hoxha showed absolutely no thought for the road laws or the danger he was putting other people in by driving nearly three times the speed limit.
‘Rather than face up to what he had done he then chose to run away and hide.
‘As hiding places go this was certainly a brave choice, but it made little difference to our dog, who soon sniffed him out from beneath the reeds.

‘I’m incredibly thankful no one was injured during this incident as the consequences do not bear thinking about.
‘I want to send out a strong message to any other driver who thinks they can escape being arrested when they show a complete disregard for road laws.
‘As we’ve shown here we can call on other teams within the force including the dog unit – so you won’t stay hidden for long.’
