SHOPPERS were met with horror after an armed gunman made his way into a supermarket.

Payton Gendron's racism-fueled rampage left 10 African American citizens dead.

Who are Payton Gendron's parents?

Before he was known as the Buffalo shooter, Payton Gendron was known as the son of Paul and Pamela Gendron.

Paul and Pamela held careers as civil engineers and worked with the state Department of Transportation.

Shortly after Payton was taken into custody, his parents were interviewed by the FBI and were reportedly cooperating with investigators.

Outside of their occupations and relationship with Payton, not much additional information is available on their personal lives.

What did Payton Gendron do?

On May 14, 2022, police responded to an active shooter at a Tops Friendly Supermarket in Buffalo.

According to Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, 10 of the 13 victims were killed, four of the people shot were store employees and a total of 11 victims were African American.

Shortly after, authorities arrested Payton in connection to the attack.

At the time, he was seen wearing military gear and carrying a Bushmaster XM-15 semiautomatic rifle into the store while live-streaming the tragic event on Twitch.

He has since been charged with committing hate crimes resulting in death and hate crimes involving an attempt to kill, court documents state.

The shooting quickly gained national attention and happened just 10 days before 19 students and two teachers were fatally shot by Salvador Ramos at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

On February 15, 2023, Payton was sentenced to life in prison.

Are Paul and Pamela Gendron being sued?

Due to Payton's actions, his parents were the subject of a lawsuit that was filed in June 2022 by Zaire Goodman.

Goodman survived the Buffalo shooting after he was shot in the throat.

Buffalo attorney Terrence M. Connors, who represents Goodman, alleges that Payton's parents knew or should have known about their son's racist and violent attitudes, according to Buffalo News.

In court papers, Connors said that Paul and Pamela "failed to use reasonable care to restrain Payton Gendron from so viciously conducting himself as to intentionally harm others, despite their knowledge of his propensity for not only racism but violence."

He also accused the parents of "carelessly, negligently, recklessly" allowing him to purchase firearms and store them in their Conklin, New York home, Buffalo News adds.

Ultimately, Paul and Pamela were not held liable and their son was sentenced to life behind bars for his hate crime rampage.
