Silvestre praises Wan-Bissaka progress
Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre says the World Cup break did Aaron Wan-Bissaka the world of good.
In recent weeks, the right-back, 25, has finally started to live up to the expectations at Old Trafford which came with his £50million arrival from Crystal Palace three years ago.
Silvestre, 45, who played for nearly a decade for a hugely successful Red Devils side, told bettingexpert: "It's hard when you don't play, to keep your fitness levels, your spirit up.
"But I think the fact he had time to work with the team during the World Cup was beneficial for him.
"It allowed him to play on the same level as everyone else when the league restarted. He took advantage of that and his performances have been good."

Besiktas cling on to Weghorst
Besiktas sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci says they plan to keep Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley as agreed unless their arms are twisted with a decent payout.
The Holland forward, 30, is widely reported to be about to join Mannchester United on loan for the remainer of the campaign.
But Kazanci says the deal they have in place with the Clarets means he must stay with the Turkish giants as things stand.
He told Fanatik: "If Manchester United or any other team wants Weghorst, they will meet with Burnley anyway.
"Burnley will then contact us and discuss the terms of separation. If we accept, the contract will be terminated.
“Otherwise, it will go on until the end of the season. He can’t just go – there will have to be a reward for us to approve the separation."

Arsenal and United eye Depay
Manchester United or Arsenal could offer Memphis Depay a shock return to the Prem.

The Red Devils want to boost their Cristiano Ronaldo-less attack this month and Depay is said to be keen on a return to Old Trafford.
But the Gunners also need cover for injured line-leader Gabriel Jesus.
And according to Spanish outlet Sport both clubs could be about to put in a low-ball bid for the star, who will be out of contract in the summer.

According to the Telegraph, Brentford stopper Raya is “high on Tottenham’s list of targets”.
The Spanish international, 27, will have one year remaining on his deal at the end of the season.

Utd should get Kane
Man Utd have been urged to “break the bank” for Tottenham star Harry Kane, says Paul Merson.
He told the Daily Star: “In an age where clubs spend money for fun and world-class centre-forwards are a rarity, I would find it crazy if Manchester United did not break the bank for Harry Kane.
“You can look all around the world, rack your brains and round up every scout within your network and the answer is right there in front of you. There is nobody that comes close to Kane that is currently available.
“If United ever want to catch Manchester City, they’ve got to go and get Kane. Everybody wants a striker and is searching far and wide but the best centre-forward is staring everybody in the face.
“He plays for a team in Tottenham that are going to win absolutely nothing and surely, sooner or later his head is going to be turned by a move again.
“I don’t know what I’m missing here. Even if he costs £150million and it’s a four or five-year contract, you are buying over 100 goals. Who else is going to give you that?”

Corberan eyes O'Brien reunion
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is keeping an eye on midfielder Lewis O’Brien at Nottingham Forest.
The pair worked together at Huddersfield last season before moving on.
And Baggies’ Corberan could make a loan move if O’Brien remains out in the cold at Forest.
O’Brien, 24, was not even on the bench at Southampton in midweek and played 68 minutes in yesterday’s FA Cup slump to Blackpool.
And Forest chief Steve Cooper is keen to trim his large squad to make room for new signings.

Chelsea ‘better off without’ Aubameyang
Chelsea have been Warn-ed they would be better off without selfish Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
And Neil Warnock reckons it is only a matter of time before the ex-Arsenal striker throws Graham Potter under the bus.
Warnock told talkSPORT: "You get players like that and you are better off without them.
"Chelsea are short of strikers but people like Aubameyang are after themselves really, they look after themselves as players and they’ll throw the manager under the bus rather than take any blame.
"So I think Graham Potter has to deal with it. It’s similar to what’s happened with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.
"I said United should let him go in pre-season and that was no disrespect to Ronaldo.
"Leopards don’t change their spots and I don’t think Aubameyang will ever change. You know from Arsenal to Chelsea, now he looks the same type of player. On his day, as good as you’ll see, but his days are few and far between."

Chelsea to block Burstow loan transfer
Chelsea's massive injury crisis could cost Mason Burstow a loan move.
The ex-Charlton striker, 19, is wanted by several clubs but the Blues’ transfer team are blocking his exit — he may even get a shot at the first team.
Burstow joined the Blues last January before being loaned back for the remainder of the season after breaking into the Addicks team under former manager Nigel Adkins.
He scored with his very first touch in senior football when he netted against Crawley Town in the EFL Cup in September 2021.
He continued to impress even when Adkins was replaced by Johnnie Jackson in October of that year.
He managed to score six goals and assist three more in 23 appearances for the South London club.

Merson compares Kane to Haaland
“Everyone talks about Erling Haaland but for me, Kane could deliver similar numbers in that Manchester City team and even add more assists.
“Call me silly but Kane would even give United a chance of winning the Champions League in my opinion.
“He is a machine. Tottenham are only where they are because of Harry Kane, it really is that simple. He is the difference.”

Merson urges United to chase Kane
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to break the bank for England and Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
The Red Devils need a forward following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking in his column for the Daily Star, Merson wrote: “In an age where clubs spend money for fun and world-class centre-forwards are a rarity, I would find it crazy if Manchester United did not break the bank for Harry Kane.
“You can look all around the world, rack your brains and round up every scout within your network and the answer is right there in front of you. There is nobody that comes close to Kane that is currently available.

Gakpo added: "I think we played in phases really good football but in the end, we didn't score enough, so that's a pity.
"But I think we showed what we could do, but we can still improve on some points and let's work on that. I think we showed real team spirit at moments, so that's good.
"I think we have to go there [Molineux] with great determination and just go for the win."

Worst transfers XI since Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United have made some horrendous signings in the last decade.
The club has spent absurd amounts of money in recent years to try to return to the glory days experienced under the great Sir Alex Ferguson.
But their scattergun strategy in the transfer market has yielded poor results and impressed very few, including manager Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman recently said: “The club has bought an unimaginable number of players in recent years who have not been good enough.
“Most purchases have been average – and at United average is not good enough.
“United’s shirt weighs heavily. Only real personalities, who can perform under great pressure, can play here.”
