Andrew Tate has been arrested by Romanian authorities on suspicion of rape, human trafficking, and organized crime offences.

The 36 year old social media figure was arrested alongside his brother, Tristan, following a raid on his villa, after Andrew appeared to give away his location when he posted a two-minute video of a rant at climate activist Greta Thunberg, 19.

The video featured a pizza box from a local Romanian takeaway, alerting local authorities.

Prosecutors said the brothers are suspects in an alleged organised crime ring that sexually exploited at least six women, who were recruited, housed and forced into performing pornographic videos for sale online.

The two brothers faced questioning regarding the alleged sex crimes and human trafficking offences.

OK! has contacted Andrew's representatives for comment.

A spokesperson for Tate told DailyMail.com: "We cannot provide any details at the moment regarding alleged reports that they have been detained; however, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can."

Prolific social media user Andrew has said before that "40 percent" of the reason he moved to Romania was that the police were less likely to pursue sexual assault allegations against him.

In a statement released by DIICOT – Romania's police, crime, and investigation unit, they revealed that they had raided five homes in connection to the alleged offences.

It included that the suspects used the "lover boy method" to lure the women in, by pretending to be in love with them, before "sexually exploiting them".

They said that "physical violence and mental coercion" were to force the women to comply with their demands, including "intimidation, constant surveillance, control and invoking alleged debts."

A video that they released showed a number of items that had been recovered from Andrew's home, including guns and various knives and swords.

Andrew, who has dual British and US nationality, has gained much notoriety over his controversial posts on social media, which included one that suggested that women "bear some responsibility" if they are assaulted. This led to him being banned from Twitter until recently.

Andrew found fame on Big Brother in 2016, but was removed from the program after a video surfaced online which appeared to show him attacking a woman with a belt – a clip he claimed had been edited.

It's thought that Andrew's recent social media post directed at Greta Thunberg was what gave away his location to Romanian police, as he taunted her about the "massive emissions" from his fleet of 30 expensive cars.

Posting a video, Andrew said: "Hello Greta Thunberg. I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad-turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the start. Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and its enormous emissions."

Greta clapped back in a sassy post, which read: "Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at smalld***[email protected]."

As of August, Andrew was banned from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook.
