Winter Love Island will not be filmed in Majorca like its summer equivalent according to ITV2. Announced after the success of the 2019 series, the new show will be filmed in South Africa and is expected to be broadcast at the beginning of 2020. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest change to the popular show.
Why is Love Island moving to South Africa?
ITV announced last week viewers will not have to wait until next summer to be able to watch the next series of Love Island.
The popular reality show will be running for two seasons in 2020 after the success of series five.
The winter version of Love Island is expected to be broadcast early next year for viewers to enjoy.
However, instead of being filmed in the Love Island villa in Majorca, bosses at ITV have announced the series will be filmed in South Africa.
HOW TO APPLY TO LOVE ISLAND 2020
This change of location is thought to be due to the weather in Europe being unsuitable for the summer atmosphere of the show.
Despite being set for a post-Christmas release, the series is expected to take place in a sunny villa for the singletons.
ITV has not yet revealed where the new villa will be in South Africa but temperatures in South Africa are higher than the winter months in Europe.
According to the Met Office, the average daily temperatures in Johannesburg, South Africa in January 25.2°C.
In February, the temperatures are expected to be slightly higher at 25.4°C.
WHEN DOES THE NEW SERIES OF LOVE ISLAND START?
Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV said of the news: “Off the back of a record-breaking year, we’re delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule.
“Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences.
“In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location.”
Not much has been revealed yet about where the villa will be or whether any format changes are expected.
