Fate: The Winx Saga, which is based on Nickelodeon’s animated series The Winx Club, made its debut on Netflix last year. The drama then returned for a second outing in September with a few loose ends needing to be resolved and potential new storylines to delve into. There had been no official news from the streamer regarding its future until now and subscribers couldn’t be more disappointed.

Fate: The Winx Saga has been cancelled by Netflix after just two series, leaving fans confused and “heartbroken”.

The series revolved around a magical boarding school for fairies where they learn to hone their powers, as well as face threats from ancient creatures wishing to destroy the world.

While the show did receive mixed reviews from critics and audiences, it certainly still did have a fanbase who assumed there would be more episodes to come.

Showrunner Brian Young took to Instagram to share the upsetting news with fans.

He wrote: “So this is not fun news to share but Netflix has decided not to move forward with season three of Fate: The Winx Saga.

“This is especially tough because I know how many of you loved this season.

“It’s a heartbreaking silver lining but a silver lining all the same.

“I’m so proud of everyone who worked on the show, and so happy we got to tell the stories we did.

“Our cast and crew put in a ton of hard work creating this world and these characters.

“I’m grateful for each and every one of them and for all of you watching.”

While Young has accepted the fate of the show, subscribers have not, launching a petition to convince Netflix to change its mind.

So far, more than 22,000 fans of The Winx Saga have shown their support for the petition.

The summary reads: “It is truly devastating. It’s one of the best shows on Netflix and had some unfinished storyline to finish.

“Everyone was looking forward to more seasons and was waiting for them to renew the show.

“Instead they chose to cancel the show, leaving many fans furious and heartbroken. Which is why I created this petition to have people sign it so Netflix can bring it back.”

The petition creator continued to state how the streamer is instead focusing on making serial killer documentaries rather than “amazing shows that people love”.

They added: Even if you’re not a fan of this show, in particular, this petition could help stop Netflix from cancelling popular shows and instead putting out numerous documentaries about serial killers and giving them the spotlight instead of people who actually deserve it.”

It is rare for the platform to change its mind but it has happened in the past.

The fantasy series Lucifer, starring Tom Ellis, was originally on Fox before Netflix took it over.

The streamer did decide to cancel Lucifer season five but fans heavily petitioned for its return.

After much uproar, Netflix did take a U-turn and renewed it for a fifth and a final sixth series.

So could people’s power really bring back The Winx Saga for more episodes?
