Strictly Come Dancing has signed James Bye to join the 20th series of the hit dancing competition, which returns to screens next months.

The EastEnders star, 38, is the 14th star to be announced in the star-studded line-up, joining the likes of Loose Women's Kaye Adams and singer Fleur East.

The news was confirmed on Good Morning Britain as Richard Arnold, 52, spoke to hosts Adil Ray, 48, and Charlotte Hawkins, 47.

Following in the footsteps of Rose Ayling-Ellis, Richard said: "You've probably guessed why I'm really here in Walford and it is to announce the next contestant on this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing… It is the one and only James Bye aka Martin Fowler!"

"Show us some moves!" Richard continued as James emerged to do a little twirl.

James, who recently shared a peak of his life off-screen, then explained that he was a "late booking" but added how pleased he is that it's finally out as he can talk about it.

He continued: "I can tell people I've lied to, so apologies, but I've had some time to get my head around it."

“I’m not known for my shimmy or my twinkle toes – in fact my kids regularly laugh at my dad dancing but it’s an honour to be asked and I’m going to give it my best shot," James added in the official press release.

He added: "There are some huge dance shoes to fill and it’s truly exciting to follow in the footsteps of some amazing EastEnders talent. I’d love to do everyone proud.”

Fans immediately flocked to Twitter to share their joy over the news as one person wrote: "JAMES BYE ON STRICTLY I AM HAVING A HEART ATTACK".

Another shared: "I'm excited about the signing and think he'll do very well. Glad we've finally got a male EE star," with a clapping hands emoji.

While a third added: "Wishing you the very best of luck James on your #Srrictly journey I can't wait to see you on the Dancefloor. Good luck!!!!" with several celebration emojis.
