Crash, bang, WALLY! Moment female driver crashes into a parked car while driving with her BONNET and boot OPEN during row with partner

A grandmother has been left ‘absolutely fuming’ after an ‘idiot’ motorist ‘wrote-off’ her family’s parked car while blindly driving off from a row with their partner with both the boot and bonnet open.

Tracey Spraggon claimed she has been forced to use all of their savings to buy a new car after the woman ploughed her Mercedes hatchback into their Volkswagen Touran outside the family’s home in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.

The 55-year-old said she was at home with her grandchildren when she heard shouting in the street and looked out of the window to see a couple having a heated argument on the morning of Sunday, June 26.

Footage captured of the incident shows the enraged woman trying to drive off while a man appears to open the car boot and bonnet in an attempt to stop her from leaving.

The family’s beloved car, which they claimed to have had for almost five years without any issues, was allegedly written off as a result of the impact

After hearing the commotion in the street, Ms Spraggon’s daughter, who lives across the road, began recording the incident from an upstairs window

The stay-at-home grandmother and her family then watched in horror as the woman careered down the road and drove straight into their parked car, seemingly blinded by the open bonnet.

The family claimed they ran outside to discover their car had been written off because of the impact.

They said they called the police but no arrests were made.

Ms Spraggon, from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, said: ‘Me and my granddaughter who lives with me were tidying her bedroom with the window open and we heard a load of shouting.

‘We looked out the window and saw that there was a bit of argy bargy at the corner – [this woman] was arguing with her boyfriend.

‘She’s come down to get the car and he caught her trying to get the car and that’s why he had the bonnet up trying to take everything out to stop her driving.

The footage captured the man blocking the car’s path while the female driver reversed – despite the boot being open as well as the bonnet – as a second woman looked on

 ‘She was having none of it and just thought she could drive with the bonnet up and then bang – drove straight into our car.

‘We ran out and phoned the police. My granddaughter who was videoing outside was hysterical.

‘I’m just absolutely fuming at what she’s done, driving with the bonnet up and the back end.

‘It was the thought that the kids could’ve been playing out and been killed because they always play curby in the street and for some reason that morning they weren’t.

‘I was like, “Are you an idiot? Driving like that, you could’ve killed a [child].”‘

‘She was just standing there crying, saying “I’m sorry, I’m sorry”. I said, “Sorry’s not good enough.”‘

Meanwhile, one of Ms Spraggon’s granddaughters also ran downstairs and recorded the woman crashing head on into their car from the end of her driveway.

After the driver smashed into Ms Spraggon and her husband’s Volkswagen Touran, all of the family members poured into the street and called the police.

The grandmother-of-eight said: ‘I was absolutely gutted when I saw the damage. When her car hit our car it also hit my husband’s work van because it pushed the car forward.

‘Thankfully there was no damage to my husband’s work van but all the doors wouldn’t lock on the car because the electrics had gone and the car was a total right off.

‘Our car had just had it’s MOT two days before and it only needed a tyre and now the car’s a right off and has been taken away.

‘We got told not to drive it [as] because of the impact it would be very dangerous.

‘We had plans to go to the beach that day with the [children] so we couldn’t go.

‘We got in touch with her insurance straight away and my husband had to phone anybody and everybody to try and get a courtesy car and go and pick it up.

‘The insurance gave us a pay-out but it’s still not what we expected and nowhere near what we needed for a new car.

‘We’ve had our car for years and had no problem with it and now we’ve had to use every penny of our savings to get a new car. It’s not on.’

After receiving a ‘disappointing’ insurance payout and having to empty their savings to buy a new car, the family have been forced to downsize from their seven-seater vehicle to a smaller, five-seater car following the incident

After receiving a ‘disappointing’ insurance payout and having to empty their savings to buy a new car, the family have been forced to downsize from their seven-seater vehicle to a smaller, five-seater car.

The grandmother said this means they can only take three children out with them at a time instead of five, making outings and holidays more difficult for the big family.

The grandparents now plan to rebuild their savings and move on from the upsetting incident, thankful that no children were harmed in the crash.

Ms Spraggon said: ‘I’m just absolutely gutted that I’ve my lost my car, I loved my car. We never had any bother with that car, it was the best thing ever.

‘It was a seven-seater and now we’re back to a five-seater – we used to be able to take five grandchildren out in the car and now in the five-seater we can only take three.

‘We’ve had to use all of our savings, so my husband’s going to have to do some more overtime so we can get saving and go away with the kids again.

‘It’s absolutely disgusting that people can do this and get away with it.’

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: ‘Shortly before 10am on June 26, we received a report of a collision [in] Sunderland.

‘It was reported a female driver had collided with a parked car causing minor damage.

‘No one was injured.’
