Greg James has made it into the BBC's top ten paid stars after receiving an £80,000 pay rise for work in the past year, the corporation's latest earnings report reveals.

The 36 year old Radio 1 DJ now earns between £390,000 to £394,999 for his work on Radio 1's Breakfast Show, Rewinder on Radio 4, Radio 1's Big Weekend, and Out Out! Live, as well as his work on Sports Personality Of The Year.

Zoe Ball, meanwhile, remains the broadcasting company's second highest paid talent – after Gary Lineker – and highest paid woman, with a salary of £980,000 to £984,999.

However, her salary has fell for the second consecutive year, slipping below £1 million for 210 editions of the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Radio 2.

Gary Lineker is the BBC's top earning star for the fifth consecutive year in a row, and is now the only star to earn over £1 million annually.

The 61 year old pundit and former footballer was paid between £1,350,000 and £1,354,999 for his work on Match of the Day and Sports Personality Of The Year, as well as his football coverage and punditry for England matches.

Gary first topped the list back in 2017/18 with a pay bracket of £1,750,000 to £1,759,999, but back in 2020 it was announced the star had taken a voluntary pay cut.

Fellow former footballer Alan Shearer is found in third place along with Radio 2's Steve Wright, who both earn between £450,000 to £454,999.

However, Alan has seen a year-on-year increase of £60,000, while Radio 2 DJ Steve – who will soon leave his regular daytime show – had a £15,000 decrease.

In total, four out of the top 10 best paid names at the BBC have seen their salaries fall this year, and the top 10 features fewer women, with drop from four to three.

Lauren Laverne has missed out on the top 10 this year as her salary has fallen by £15,000 to £380,000 to £384,999 for the year, £10,000 lower than her fellow DJ Greg James.

There have also been notable increases on the overall list of top earning stars, with broadcasters such as Naga Munchetty seeing a £110,000 increase and Amol Rajan seeing an £85,000 increase.

Meanwhile Victoria Derbyshire has seen a £70,000 increase.

But this year the BBC has also seen a number of high-profile departures, with Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel, Andrew Marr, and Dan Walker all leaving their roles at the company for rival broadcasters.

The BBC are also likely to face a tighter strain on their budget in the future, too, with Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries announcing earlier this year that the BBC's licence fee will be frozen under inflation for the next two years, with calls for it to be scrapped altogether by 2027.
