ONE Betfair punter came agonisingly close to a massive payout on Liverpool winning an historic quadruple.

Tanya Hanley, from Merseyside, placed £100 on Jurgen Klopp's side to win all four major trophies in August at odds of 3,671/1.

And she would have scooped £367,100 if her first ever bet had been successful.

Tanya entered the final day of the 2021-22 season with a Cash Out value of £22,712 with Liverpool having already bagged the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Betfair boosted that to £35,000 on Sunday morning.

They also offered her a partial Cash Out offer of £25,000 now, and a further £100,000 if Liverpool won the Premier League and Champions League.

But Tanya kept the faith and let it ride.

And it looked to have been an excellent decision with Manchester City trailing 1-0 to Aston Villa and Liverpool drawing 1-1 with Wolves.

Betfair adjusted the Cash Out offer to £62,371 with 45 minutes left on the clock.

Again, Tanya kept the faith and was soon rewarded when Liverpool hero Philippe Coutinho netted a second for the Villans to make it 2-0.

The Cash Out offer jumped massively to a colossal £95,000 with 20 minutes on the clock and Liverpool requiring just a single goal.

Tanya didn't cash out.

The Citizens then staged a stunning late comeback with three goals in five minutes to turn the game on its head, and pip Liverpool to the title.

But there's been another twist.

And that's because Manchester United legend and Betfair Ambassador, Dimitar Berbatov has become an unlikely hero for Tanya.

In his role as VAR-Batov, the former United number nine has reviewed her final offer from the 92nd minute of the Manchester City vs Aston Villa game and has ruled that the fair thing to do is to Cash Out retrospectively for her.

As a result, Betfair have paid out the £1,215 offer from the 92nd minute to Tanya.

Berbatov said: "I saw the news about Tanya the Liverpool fan. I've been speaking to the people at Betfair and the final Cash Out offer in the 92nd minute was £1,125.

"Given how close Liverpool came and how incredible that bet was, it’s only fair that they pay that final offer out to her!"
