A mum has been slammed for deciding to tattoo her 12-year-old son and posting it online.
The photo, uploaded to Facebook, shows a boy with his face covered sporting two freshly inked tattoos – one on his hand and the other on his shoulder.
Both tattoos are heart shapes with the one on the hand being the largest. The mum said she was "proud" of her son for "taking it like a champ".
The post read: "Mr 'I'm never getting a tattoo again even tho I put numbing cream last time'. He decided he wanted 2 more with no numbing cream.
"He took it like a champ. I'm such a proud mother right now."
It seems as if this won't be the last time the boy is getting inked, with the post going on to read: "Can't wait to some details on the hearts later on."
The post was then uploaded to Reddit, where disgusted readers voiced their concern over the "irresponsible" decision to tattoo a child.
One comment sarcastically read: "I always say when you start getting tattoos, start real young and start with face and hand tats."
Another outraged person wrote: "Kids will make fun of him."
A third sarcastic response said: "Only thing he's missing is the name of a girl he fell in love with at recess and i think he's all set."
Another perplexed reader said: "Probably child abuse and a few other crimes."
On the governments legislation website, the Tattooing of Minors Act 1969 reads: "It shall be an offence to tattoo a person under the age of 18 except when the tattoo is performed for medical reasons by a duly qualified medical practitioner or by a person working under his direction, but it shall be a defence for a person charged to show that at the time the tattoo was performed he had reasonable cause to believe that the person tattooed was of or over the age of eighteen and did in fact so believe."
