Darts star Gerwyn Price will embrace the words of Katy Perry as he bids to reach the Premier League playoffs.

The Welshman will take on Peter Wright on Night 10 on Thursday night for what promises to be a cracker in Manchester. He is pushing for a place in the playoffs having missed a Premier League event in Brighton last month after suffering a hand fracture.

Price usually enters the arena to early-90s hit Ice Ice Baby, but the Vanilla Ice track won't be getting any play time in Manchester this week. Instead, Katy Perry's pop bop Roar will boom around the AO Arena as he takes to the stage.

Explaining the bizarre switch, the Welshman said he had been inspired to choose the song after hearing it on a family day out. "I was just driving home with the family after we'd been out for a meal in Cardiff and 'Roar' came on," he said.

"We were all singing along to it and I liked the beat of the music, so I thought 'why not make the change?' I listened to the lyrics and I think they suit me and my game, hopefully it can give me a good fresh start in the Premier League."

Meanwhile, three-time darts major finalist Wayne Mardle has also claimed some credit in a social media post. "I mentioned this to him a couple of years ago. It’s fits him perfectly! Good stuff!" he wrote on Twitter.

Price is currently sixth in the Premier League standings, four points off the final playoff place currently occupied by James Wade. Only Gary Anderson has won fewer legs than him so far in the competition, but the man from Cardiff has vowed to put his patch form to an end.

"We're only half-way through the season and nobody has been stand-out," he said. "It's the second half of the season now so it's time for me to kick on and reach the playoffs, which I'm confident of doing.

"It will only take a couple of night wins to move into the top four. My form is coming back and I'm feeling confident in how I'm playing. My wrist injury only has two more weeks to go, which I'm looking forward to being fully healed so I can get back to playing every week."
