London’s O2 has announced that Friday’s AP Dhillon gig at the Indigo will be postponed due to the damage caused to the venue by Storm Eunice.

Photos had emerged on social media of the roof of the O2 being shredded by the high winds and adverse weather as Storm Eunice continued to batter the UK on Friday.

Indian singer, rapper and songwriter AP Dhillon, 29, had been scheduled to perform at the Indigo within the O2 on Friday, but his concert will now take place on February 22 instead.

A statement on the O2’s website told concertgoers: ‘Due to today’s adverse weather conditions, we can confirm that there has been some damage caused to the tent fabric in our roof at The O2.

‘The affected areas have been cleared and The O2 will remain closed for the rest of the day. Tonight’s AP Dhillon show at indigo at The O2 is being rescheduled to Tuesday 22nd February.

‘Please check the event page for further info. The safety of our visitors remains of paramount importance, and we will continue to assess the ongoing situation and act accordingly.’

It is not known if the damaged roof directly impacts the arena and the areas affected have been cleared.

The damage cones just days before Dave is set to perform shows in the arena between February 21 and 22, while UB40 featuring Ali Campbell are set to perform a gig in memory of late bandmate Astro on February 25.

Astro, whose real name was Terence Wilson, had played percussion and trumpets as well as providing vocals in the band from 1978 until 2013.

He died in November at the age of 62 after a ‘short illness’, his bandmates had confirmed at the time.

While Storm Eunice is ferocious, it is expected to be short-lived, with the majority of the Met Office’s weather warnings currently in place, including the two red warnings, expected to end today and tomorrow.

The storm is expected to gradually start easing tonight from the West first, and while it will remain gusty over the weekend, the red weather warnings will be de-escalated to yellow.

Due to weather forecasts not always being spot on, there is always the chance the alerts will be extended if the storm continues longer than predicted and conditions fail to improve.
