Dev (played by Jimmi Harkishin) has recently been trying to get over his ill-fated romance with Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) on Coronation Street. The corner shop owner thought he had found the woman of his dreams until it was revealed she had taken a share of the fundraising money that had been collected when Jospeh Brown (William Flanagan) fled the cobbles a few weeks ago. However, in one of the ITV soap’s unlikeliest of twists, he could set his sights on a new love interest as Linda Hancock (Jacqueline Leonard), who is also Joseph’s grandmother, returns to Weatherfield.

Although they did split up after Bernie’s dark secret came to light, Dev and his former lover have since made amends.

They might have had a chance to rekindle something but given the way the businessman spoke to her, Bernie said their romance was over.

Therefore, when Dev sees Linda in the Rovers Return in upcoming scenes on the weeknight serial drama, he makes his bid to get in her good books.

The corner shop owner is pleased to see Joseph’s grandmother has returned and he does his best to flirt with her, just in sight of Bernie who is watching on.

All seems to be going well between Dev and Linda as they catch up on what’s been happening in their lives over the past seven years.

Jealous seeing Dev moving on with Linda, Bernie cannot help but make some nasty remarks about him in front of his possible new love interest.

Hitting back as he doesn’t like to feel like an underdog, Dev explains to Joseph’s grandmother what Bernie did with the fundraising money.

From this moment, it’s clear the former lovers will never rekindle their spark as Gemma Winter’s (Dolly-Rose Campbell) is left horrified by Dev’s comments.

What the corner shop owner also did at this moment was reveal to Linda her grandson had gone missing for a period of time.

It seems by this point the businessman has scuppered all chances of forming a romance with the returning character.

You can never say never

Jacqueline Leonard

However, the actress who plays Linda, Jacqueline, has addressed whether she thinks there could be a future romance for her character and Dev.

The soap star said: “I mean, possibly. You can never say never, would you? I think it’s very possible. I mean, she doesn’t know his history.

“When we just found out that he’d had a dalliance with Bernie, that might put her off a little, but you never know.

“She is a single woman,” the returning cast member explained so if Linda does stick around, she could end up dating Dev.

Having had a number of failed relationships over the years, will the businessman ensure this one goes the distance?

Linda could be a great mother figure to his teenage children, Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) and Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain), as well.

During her original stint on the cobbles back in 2015, she arrived as the estranged mother of Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) and Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston).

Being a parental figure to the Alahan twins could give Linda another chance at motherhood seeing as she had missed out on being a mother to her own two daughters.

But having seen their father go from relationship to relationship, the twins will have to judge whether Linda is right for their father.

Could they be the ones who mess things up this time around for Dev or will they accept he is really trying to make things work with the returning character?

Jacqueline has also spoken about the moment Dev tells her Joseph went missing a few weeks ago, something she should have been told by Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).

The soap star said: “Linda can’t believe this. She can’t believe that Chesney hasn’t told her that Joseph went missing.

“And that he’s been through this awful ordeal,” the actress added.

Paparazzi pictures have recently shown Jacqueline filming some scenes at an airport with the actors who play Chesney and Joseph.

Given this indicates she will be making an exit again in the not so distant future, could Dev’s comments be the push she needs to make a departure, rather than exploring a romance with him?

It doesn’t mean the door is closed on the chance of a relationship flourishing in the future as the actor who plays Dev, Jimmi, has assured fans he is not going anywhere.

The soap stalwart said: “Coronation Street is just this brilliant, brilliant programme, to work for.

“It feels like home and I never forget how fortunate I am to do something I love.

“I think to myself, ‘Is there anything I’d really like to go out there and do more than I like doing Corrie?’ “The answer to that is, ‘No’. If there was, I’d do it,” he continued in an interview with The Mirror, meaning there is plenty of time for more romances in the future.

Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm and Fridays at 7:30pm for an hour on ITV.
