TWO people were airlifted to the hospital after a plane crashed outside Houston on Friday.

The wreckage of the plane was discovered at a golf course northwest of Houston, Texas, authorities said.

Two people on the plane were flown to a Houston hospital for treatment after the crash in Harris County.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the plane as a small aircraft and said that both passengers were alive but injured.

Police and fire rescue were at the crash site, located near the 18000 block of Clay Road.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
