A MAN has questioned whether or not he's in the wrong for disagreeing with his wife's decision to choose a gender neutral name for their unborn daughter.

He took to Reddit's Am I The Asshole? forum to explain the situation, revealing he and his wife, both 27 years old, are expecting their first child this June.

And while they're both excited about becoming parents for the first time, they've hit a bit of a road block over the tot's moniker.

"We have had the baby talk before and we discussed how many we plan on having, where, how far apart in age we would like them to be etc… names hadn’t been an issue until we found out the sex," he wrote.

Despite him suggesting the name Juliet for their daughter, his wife said "she doesn’t want any traditional girl or boys name".

Instead, "she wants a gender neutral name in case our kids ever decide they want to transition".

"I mentioned to her that most people who transition end up changing their names to one they identify with so even if we were to give them a gender neutral name they might end up changing it," he continued.

"I also mentioned some people change their names just because, my grandma being one of those people and I used her as an example but she won’t budge."

OH BABY

I'm a mum-of-four at 21 and HATE when other parents go on about how to feed my kids

The situation has now got to the point where the woman has "threatened to not give me a choice and will tell nurses and doctors beforehand to not ask me for the baby’s information for the birth certificate".

"I feel it is ridiculous and a name shouldn’t take away any rights or opinions on my baby girl," he concluded.

In a comment on the post, he revealed that the other names he'd suggested were Orion, Violet, Scarlet and Dakota, while she was leaning more towards monikers such as Hunter, Scout, Payton, Rory, Morgan and Kai.

The comment section of the post was quickly flooded with messages from others, the majority of whom agreed that he wasn't in the wrong for his stance on his daughter's name.

"Take it from a trans person, your wife is very much over thinking this," one person wrote.

"Your kid can always change her name whenever she feels like it, so picking a name to be gender neutral won't actually matter that much."

"This is worrying to me, your child is not even here yet and she is already threatening to cut you out of a very important part of the baby’s life because you won’t do what she wants," another person commented.

"Also, I have never heard of anyone giving a child a gender neutral name in case they want to transition.

"Like who is even thinking of that before a child is born?"

"It blows my mind the wife is making such a huge argument over something that MIGHT happen a couple decades from now," a third person agreed.

In other name news, these are the names that have been banned in countries around the world.

This mum chose her daughter's name years ago but is now worried she'll be bullied for it.

People burst out laughing when they hear this boy's name but he's already made thousands, aged five.
