LIAM Payne has admitted he hasn't "seen or heard" from Harry Styles in a long time – though he does want One Direction reform one day.

The 26-year-old singer said he hasn't kept in contact with the Sign of the Times hitmaker, which is one of the main reasons he doesn't think a reunion will come any time soon.

Speaking on Nova 96.9's Fitzy & Wippa, he said: "I haven't seen or heard from Harry in some time now, which is fine, everyone needs their space.

"Would I like to get back together? Yeah, definitely. I don't see any reason why we can't but if that's the way he feels that's up to him really."

While he's unsure about Harry's take on reforming the band, Liam did say former band members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson would be up for it.

He said: "I know Niall was ready the day that we decided to stop for a second.

"He was like, 'Sure we're coming back in tomorrow, boys!' He was just ready to go."

The band went on indefinite hiatus in 2016 so that Harry, Liam, Louis Tomlinson, 27, Niall Horan, 26 could all pursue solo careers.

Zayn Malik, 26, left the band in 2015.

Harry has been working on his second album all summer, following up his last album that reached number one in the US charts.

Meanwhile, Liam also revealed on Hits Radio Breakfast that he didn't like Louis when the band was formed because both of them fought for the leadership position.

He said: "When were in the band it felt like, because he was the oldest and because I'd been singing for quite a bit of time we both got put in a weird position.

"He was wanting to be the leader, and I was doing my thing and wanted to. So, at first we didn't get on at all.

"We absolutely hated each other, it was so funny. Really bad. We hid it well."

Liam recently opened up about his mental health struggles while in the band to Men's Health Australia.

"It's almost like putting the Disney costume on before you step up on stage and underneath the Disney costume I was p***ed quite a lot of the time because there was no other way to get your head around what was going on, I mean it was fun."

He added: "We had an absolute blast but there were certain parts of it where it just got a little bit toxic, it's difficult when you have the level of fame that we had in the band."
