A STUDENT has told how she felt possessed and became violently ill after being injected with an unknown substance on a night out.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, said she was spiked by an injection in her leg at a city centre bar in Newcastle on December 2.

She became ill later that night and went to hospital to be checked out the next morning.

Her friend Rhianna Poots said she and pals reported the attack to police – but believed the venue wasn't able to help officers because of its poor CCTV.

Describing the experience, Rhianna's friend said: "I felt like I had been possessed and my body felt freezing.

"It was like I couldn’t physically stop myself from shaking it was probably the worst experience of my life.

"I don’t feel completely safe going back out again."

The women said the horror attacks did not stop there.

But after struggling to get CCTV footage from the first incident, they did not report a second incident, which happened at the same venue, to cops.

Rhianna said she was enjoying a night out with pals at the same bar on January 12 when three of her friends suddenly became unwell.

The Northumbria University student said two of her pals, who had all been sharing the same drink, started to be violently sick at the venue.

And one even needed to be carried out by a bouncer.

Rhianna, 18, said: "When we got home their breathing was raspy and their eyes were dilated.

"They could all hear what I was saying to them but they couldn't make sense of it."

Rhianna said she took her friends to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead as they became increasingly unwell.

"I called an ambulance as [my friend] Sara [Begic] was especially bad," she explained.

Her breathing wasn't right, she was hyperventilating. She wasn't responding and going in and out of consciousness.

The three pals underwent tests to see whether they had been spiked and Rhianna said they are still waiting on the results of blood samples.

Meanwhile, Sara Begic, 19, from Durham, said she is terrified to go out again.

"It was horrible," the law student said.

"I knew where I was but I just couldn't do anything. I couldn't move my body and the bouncer carried me out.

"I feel quite unsafe going out now."

Northumbria Police confirmed an investigation is ongoing into the reported injection spiking incident and stressed that dedicated officers are on patrol to ensure the city remains a safe place for a night out.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm we have received a report from a woman concerned she had been spiked with an injection while on a night out in Newcastle on December 2.

“An investigation has been launched and enquiries into this incident are ongoing.”

The force spokeswoman urged anyone with concerns to contact police as soon as possible.
