NEWCASTLE have reportedly joined the race to lure Yves Bissouma away from Brighton as they eye up a club-record £50million move.

Eddie Howe has been desperate for new recruits this month as he looks to assemble a squad capable of beating the drop.

The Magpies have already brought in Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood during the winter transfer window, and they are expected to make more signings in January.

And the Daily Mail state that the Toon are exploring the possibility of securing the services of the Seagulls star.

Brighton will part ways with the 25-year-old should they receive a fee of £50m.

That will be £10m more than they forked out when they landed Brazilian forward Joelinton from Hoffenheim in 2019.

As well as Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with a move for the midfielder.

Meanwhile Aston Villa are also understood to be huge admirers of the Mali international.

But the Mail states that Newcastle held fresh talks with Brighton on Sunday over a swoop for the player.

Bissouma, who has featured in all three of Mali's games at the Africa Cup of Nations, is tied down at the Amex Stadium until 2023.

Elsewhere, Newcastle remain keen to sign Jesse Lingard, though the Manchester United outcast prefers a loan switch rather than a permanent transfer.

Tottenham's Dele Alli is thought to be an option as an alternative should they fail to bring in Lingard.

And the North East side remain locked in negotiations to sign Bayer Leverkusen left-back Mitchel Bakker.

Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos is another player that could link up with Newcastle, but they will have to up their bid after their £25m offer was knocked back.
