EVERTON have confirmed a supporter has been arrested after Aston Villa’s Matty Cash and Lucas Digne were hit by a bottle thrown from the stands.
The duo were celebrating after Emi Buendia headed home a corner from Digne to win the game, who left the Toffees a fortnight ago for Villa, with their team-mates when the disgusting incident occurred.
Several plastic bottles were hurled onto the pitch as the visiting stars congratulated each other, but while the majority missed, Polish international Cash and the French full-back were both struck and instantly went down to the turf.
Everton’s PA then announced that anyone found throwing objects onto the pitch will be arrested and banned by the club.
And the club worked with police and Goodison Park security staff and have now announced that they had identified the supporter using CCTV footage.
The Toffees also added that their investigation is ongoing and bans will be handed out to any supporters found to have thrown something onto the pitch.
A statement from Everton read: “Police have arrested a supporter at Goodison Park for throwing a missile onto the pitch during today’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.
“Everton security staff and Merseyside Police identified the supporter using CCTV footage.

“Several objects were thrown towards the pitch following Aston Villa’s goal at the end of the first half, with one missile appearing to strike two opposition players.
“Investigations in conjunction with the police are ongoing, and the Club will issue bans to any fans identified throwing objects.”
Buendia’s goal was enough to earn the points for Villa as Duncan Ferguson, who bought fans a pre-match pint, began his second spell as caretaker manager with defeat.
After the game, Cash described the incident to BT Sport, saying: “Crazy, it hit me straight in the head, it's not nice but three points, we'll take that.”
Former Everton forward James McFadden told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It's disgusting to see things being thrown from the crowd, it's a disgrace. It should never happen.
“There is no way a player should be hit by a bottle or objects thrown from the crowd.”
Ex-England ace Jermaine Jenas told BT Sport: “We need to stamp it out now. We need punishments.”
