NOTHING adds flavor to a dish like well-cooked onions.
They make everything—from eggs, to burgers, to pizza, to soup—taste better.
But these tasty vegetables can be hard to cook and easy to burn.
One woman, who goes by @tasteandtraveler on TikTok, said she mastered the method for sweet, perfectly cooked caramelized onions.
She began with two yellow onions.
“Take two large onions, cut them in half, peel and slice them,” she said.
Next, prepare your pan:
“In a wide, thick bottomed pan, heat up one tablespoon of avocado oil on medium heat until it shimmers.”

Once the oil is hot enough, throw in the onions and begin stirring. You want to make sure every piece is completely coated with the oil.
After about ten minutes, she said, you’ll notice your onions take on a sort of translucent appearance.
When this happens, “reduce the heat to medium low and add in a nice pinch of salt.”
Mix the salt in well.
“Cooking them low and slow on medium low heat is key,” she said. “So stir them every few minutes.”
She revealed what your onions will look like after 30 minutes: They are slightly browned, soft, and malleable.
She kept mixing and then showed what they look like after 45 minutes: golden and beautiful.
She offered two useful tips: “If your onions are sticking to the pan, reduce the heat. If they’re starting to dry out, add a little water.”
And finally, she revealed the finish product: “After one hour, this is what they look like. They are sweet, rich, and delicious.”
Her viewers loved the clip:
“Please never stop this series! It’s so helpful,” wrote one.
“Totally worth the effort! Crock-Pots and other methods just don’t quite get the same flavor,” added another.
