THE first Saturday of the PDC World Darts Championship features some thrilling match ups.

And SunSport have picked three tips for the day.

Darius Labanauskas v Mike de Decker  – 14:30

Mike de Decker’s nickname is ‘Double Decker’.

There’s nothing betting related in that, I just thought it was worth pointing out.

He’s got a tough assignment against a former Worlds quarter-finalist and I fancy the Lithuanian Labanauskas to get the job done comfortably.

De Decker comes in as a replacement for Charles Losper and probably has a better chance of progressing than the South African.

But Darius has yet to lose his opening match at a World Championship and while he hasn’t shone too brightly this year, will have enough experience to keep his opponent at arm’s length. Take him on the -1.5 set handicap.

Adam Hunt v Boris Krcmar – 19:00

This has the makings of an intriguing clash.

Hunt made the third round last year and saw off two tricky ties against Lisa Ashton and Jamie Hughes.

The Croatian Krcmar is more renowned for his soft tip play but qualified for the Grand Slam and European Championship this year.

It’s difficult to overestimate how important previous Worlds form is, as playing on the Ally Pally stage is so different to playing anywhere else.

As I said above, Hunt is comfortable up there, whereas Krcmar has yet to win a game on that stage, with his two previous appearances coming ten years apart.

Back the Englishman to progress.

Ted Evetts v Jim Williams – 20:00

Time for a bit of a fun bet. Evetts rightly or wrongly will always be known as the man who lost to Fallon Sherrock but he’s a great player and got his big win last month when taking the World Youth Championship crown.

Williams is a former BDO Worlds finalist and will be looking to show his ability in the PDC for the first time (Grand Slam aside).

When trying to find an angle in the 180s market I noted that when it came to best of 11 leg matches (the traditional short format) on the Darts Database, the amount they both hit is spookily similar, with their average over two years resting between three and four.

It’s a bit of a gamble to extend this to a longer format, but the price is big enough, so look for a tie in the 180s market to end the day with hopefully a nice bit of profit.
