MANCHESTER UNITED have returned MORE positive Covid cases from their players on the same day they returned to training.

The Red Devils' clash with Brentford – which was due to take place on Tuesday – was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in Ralf Rangnick's squad.

United's Carrington training ground was closed on Monday as the players were ordered to spend 24 hours away.

Those who returned negative lateral flow and PCR tests were then allowed to return for training at 10am on Wednesday.

But, according to the Daily Mail, at least two more players have subsequently been sent home after testing positive.

Although the first team were not at the training ground on Tuesday, over 130 staff were still on the Carrington site including the women's squad, Under-18s and U23s.

The situation now means United's match on Saturday at home to Brighton could be called off.

There were Premier League staff present at Carrington on Wednesday to ensure the Covid protocols were being followed.

But it does not seem to be preventing the increasing number of outbreaks among Prem clubs.

And United's opponents this weekend – Brighton – have also suffered their own Covid problems ahead of the clash.

Three Premier League matches have already been postponed over the last seven days.

Brighton vs Tottenham was called off last week due to a number of positive cases in the Spurs squad.

Then United's trip to Brentford was postponed due to the outbreak in the Red Devils' camp.

And on Wednesday night Burnley were forced to call off their clash with Watford just two hours before kick-off due to Covid cases in the Hornets' squad.

Among those who returned to United training on Wednesday was Victor Lindelof.

In recent days the centre-back has had his heart monitored after suffering from chest pains in the 1-0 win over Norwich.

The 27-year-old defender had to be replaced after he dropped down in discomfort and had his hand on his chest.

United medics rushed onto the pitch during the second half and helped the Swede leave the pitch.

Lindelof's wife Maja Nilsson Lindelof confirmed: "It was a scary match to watch and Victor was very upset afterwards. 

"He did a lot of tests and has a heart monitor on for two days to make sure everything is OK.

"It was a long time before I got hold of someone on the team who updated me. 

"Everything seems to be okay as luck would have it and we are waiting for answers to the last tests that will end tomorrow. 

"So we just spent the day at home yesterday and rested."
