Rosamund Pike is well known for her roles on the big screen in popular films such as Gone Girl, Die Another Day and I Care A Lot. However, the British actress has now taken on a new challenge as she leads the cast of a fantasy series called The Wheel of Time. The new show is soon set to launch on Amazon Prime Video and will take viewers on a journey through a magical fantasy world. In a recent interview, Rosamund opened up about the series and how it takes positive steps towards gender equality when it comes to its sex scenes.

The Wheel of Time is based on a series of fantasy novels of the same name written by Robert Jordan, with Brandon Sanderson as a co-author for the final three books.

The series is set in a high fantasy world where magic exists, but only some can access it.

It follows the story of Moiraine Damodred (played by Rosamund Pike), a legendary warrior and member of a magical organisation.

Moiraine takes five young people on a journey, believing that one of them might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, a powerful individual prophesied to save the world or destroy it.

Chatting about the show in a recent interview, Rosamund suggested one element that drew her to the series was its representation of gender.

She highlighted how in The Wheel of Time women operate on equal terms with the men, who are not trusted to channel the “One Power”.

Rosamund praised The Wheel of Time author Robert Jordan for emphasising the importance of gender equality in his books.

“Jordan had seen the destruction that men can wreak,” she commented, referencing Robert’s military past as a helicopter gunner in the Vietnam War.

Explaining how the author reflected his life experience in the books, Rosamund insisted: “He’s not saying that men are weak.

“He’s saying that you need the feminine and the masculine to hold the world in balance,” the actress said.

She also commented on the more intimate scenes in the series, noting how refreshing it is to see more male nude scenes.

Rosamund remarked: “You see many more naked men than you see naked women, which is quite pleasing, since women have been asked to expose themselves forever and a day.

“We’ve got all the boys frantically dieting and working out hard for their naked scenes and all of the women going out for lovely dinners!” Rosamund told Radio Times.

Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, and Daniel Henney are just some of the stars appearing alongside Rosamund in the news series.

The Wheel of Time will premiere its first three episodes on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 19.

However, it will then shift to a weekly release schedule on the streaming service.

There will be a total of six episodes in the first season, with the finale set to be released on Christmas Eve.

Fans of the books will be glad to know that filming of the second season of The Wheel of Time has already begun.

It’s also expected there will be several more seasons in the future as the book series consisted of 14 novels.

The Wheel of Time premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 19, 2021.
