The former president says he didn’t fear for his former VP’s safety when his supporters used ‘Hang Mike Pence’ chants during the Capitol riot back in January.

AceShowbiz –Donald Trump defended his supporters’ use of “Hang Mike Pence” chants during the Capitol riot on January 6. The former president gave a nonchalant response when asked whether he feared for his former VP’s safety on the day of the riot.

Trump was asked about the matter during an interview with ABC’s Jon Karl. “No I thought he was well-protected,” the 45th POTUS responded. He claimed, “And I had heard that he was in good shape…”

When Karl specifically asked about the chants, Trump justified it as saying, “Well, the people were very angry.” Karl then interjected in the audio excerpt, “They were saying ‘Hang Mike Pence.’ “

“Because it’s common sense, Jon,” Trump argued, insisting that his supporters had a point. “It’s common sense that you’re supposed to protect. How can you – if you know a vote is fraudulent, right? – how can you pass on a fraudulent vote to Congress? How can you do that?”

He went on blaming Pence for not blocking certification of the election, which he has adamantly claimed was rigged. “And I’m telling you: 50/50, it’s right down the middle for the top constitutional scholars when I speak to them. Anybody I spoke to – almost all of them at least pretty much agree, and some very much agree with me – because he’s passing on a vote that he knows is fraudulent. How can you pass a vote that you know is fraudulent?” he insisted.

The 75-year-old added, “Now, when I spoke to him, I really talked about all of the fraudulent things that happened during the election. I didn’t talk about the main point, which is the legislatures did not approve – five states. The legislatures did not approve all of those changes that made the difference between a very easy win for me in the states, or a loss that was very close, because the losses were all very close.”

When posting the audio excerpt on Twitter on Friday, November 12, Karl called the interview “genuinely shocking.” The interview took place in March this year, when he spoke to Trump for his upcoming book “Betrayal”.

Pence has not responded to Trump’s shocking remarks, but he has previously said he and his former boss may just never see “eye to eye” on the riot. He, however, recently claimed that they did part “amicably” and that the two have talked “a number of times” since leaving office.
