For a lot of people, the premiere of the Dexter revival, Dexter: New Blood, did not disappoint. The show begins almost a decade after the events in the Dexter series finale, finding the titular character living a completely different life, in a new place under a new name. But deep down, he’s still the same old Dexter Morgan. Here’s what to expect next on Dexter: New Blood.

‘Dexter: New Blood’ so far
When Dexter: New Blood begins, it finds Dexter going by the name Jim Lindsay and living in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York. He’s gone almost a decade without killing. But difficulties arise when he learns local bad boy Matt Caldwell secretly killed five people and got away without facing any sort of consequence.
His anger eventually explodes into a rage when Matt recklessly shoots at a deer Dexter had befriended, almost killing him in the process. Matt’s death in Dexter: New Blood will send shockwaves through the close-knit community of Iron Lake and marks a major turning point for Dexter.
His problems with Matt come amid the return of Harrison Morgan, the son he left behind before faking his death and going into hiding. While he initially sends Harrison away, he later invites him to “come home,” vowing to himself to be there for Harrison like Harry Morgan was for him.

The Dexter: New Blood Episode 2 trailer finds Dexter back at his cabin, awkwardly trying to get to know his son. His home also becomes a base camp for police as they investigate Matt’s disappearance. Watching them set up, Dexter thinks to himself that he can probably get away with it, but the arrival of a son he never mentioned brings new attention to him at the worst time.
Still, Dexter feels he “needs” Harrison around, “to keep [him] from killing again.” Debra becomes increasingly agitated and angry with her brother, knowing he’ll never be able to change, eventually causing Dexter to snap.
The ending of ‘Dexter: New Blood’ is expected to be a shocker
There are 10 episodes of Dexter: New Blood in total. While the cast and crew have been mum on the details, showrunner Clyde Phillips said the story will culminate with a mind-blowing finale.
“It’s going to be surprising, inevitable and it’s going to blow up the Internet,” he told TVLine. “It is, I personally think, the best thing I’ve written. Our director Marcos Siega, who could not be more experienced and a better friend of the show, thinks it’s the best thing he’s ever directed. I haven’t seen it yet, by the way. I only saw it get shot. We’re editing Episodes 7 and 8 right now, so I haven’t seen 10 yet. I can’t wait, to tell you the truth.”
Watch the show at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays.
