A mum of two from the Isle of Wight has shared the best ways to find yellow sticker items – what to search for and what times to do so. She has made huge savings over the past few months by shopping for bargains in Morrisons, Asda, and even Waitrose.

Jo Bohm, 36, is a mother to two children aged nine and 12.

She told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: “I am always on the lookout for yellow stickers and love picking up bargains which help me save money on family meals.

“I tend to pick up the best bargains from Waitrose, Morrisons and Asda.”

Just the other week, Jo picked up a huge haul in Waitrose.

All the products had yellow stickers on them, including pork cocktail sausages reduced from £3.25 to 90p, Cauldron Tandoori Bites marked down from £2.25 to 79p, Quorn Mozzarella & Pesto Escalopes for £1.09 instead of £3, and Mexicana Cheese reduced to 42p from £2.

Jo said: “I must have saved at least £20.”

She went on to describe another trip, this time to Morrisons, saying: “I picked up British Pork & Spanish Chorizo Meatballs for £1 instead of £4, saving £3.

“A great saving considering how many meals they can go towards.

“I also got three Jamaican Chicken Patties for 9p each instead of 90p.

“This means I paid just 27p instead of £2.70.

“I was also fortunate enough to pick up a ham hock, mushroom and cheddar quiche from the Deli for just 25p instead of £1.”

The mother-of-two added: “Plus, there were some pitta breads in the bakery section for 19p instead of 75p.

“When I went back to the meat section on my way to the till I noticed some sausages which were 36p instead of £1.70, and bacon for 36p reduced from £1.20. So I grabbed those too.”

There were bargains to be had in Asda too, especially staple items Jo could give her children for lunch.

She said: “Asda is also a great place to pick up bargains. The last time I went I picked up cheesecakes down to 35p from £3.50, and prawns down to £1.50 from £3.

“These were great for making meals with. For example, with the prawns we made a pasta dish with vegetables and we used the cheesecakes for my son’s birthday party.”

Jo explained that “nothing goes to waste”, saying: “The quiche, chicken patties and pitta breads were all used for lunches, and the meatballs and pasta were used for an evening meal.

“Anything I don’t use right away goes into the freezer.

“If you’re flexible with your menu and keep a list of what you have in the freezer then you know what bits you need to buy to make a full meal.”

Jo advised visiting your local supermarket at different times during the day until you figure out when they begin reducing items.

She said: “The best bargains are often located in a special discount section, but some stores will have reduced items available as you walk up and down the aisles.

“Look at labels which indicate the item is reduced or on clearance either on the shelf or stuck to the product.

“I also find discounts by going to money-saving websites for discount codes.

“It’s always worth checking if you can get cash back on a purchase from Quidco.

“By combining all of these tricks I have saved loads of money over time,” Jo added.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, was impressed by Jo’s bargain hunting. He said: “It’s always good to meet another yellow sticker shopper.

“Jo is clearly a pro at finding bargains and I’m sure plenty of people will be inspired to start saving more money.

“There are lots of ways to save money in supermarkets if you do a little research beforehand.

“For example, Latest Deals offers vouchers, codes and discounts for a lot of popular supermarkets, and our Supermarket Price Comparison app allows bargain hunters to find the cheapest groceries whenever they’re stocking up.”
