CORONATION Street legend Bill Roache has been told to beef up security after a gang raided a neighbour’s home.
The brazen crooks smashed through patio doors in the house in Bill’s well-heeled street to grab keys to a Range Rover parked on the drive.
And the crime was carried out at 8pm in the evening – leading cops to go door-to-door to chat to worried homeowners.
The 89-year-old Ken Barlow star has lived in the same house in Cheshire for decades.
A source revealed: “The crime has shocked the street because it was so brazen and at 8pm on a Saturday night.
“Police have gone door-to-door speaking to residents to tell them to look at their security and also if they have any clues about the crime.”
Cheshire police said: “We’re appealing for witnesses & video footage after a burglary at an address, where a dark grey Range Rover was stolen.
“The incident occurred sometime between 8pm and 8.30pm on Saturday 16 October.”
Both Bill's rep and Coronation Street have been approached for comment.
It comes shortly after it was revealed that the soap star has reportedly landed a six figure pay packet to stay on the show for his 90th birthday next year.
According to The Daily Star, ITV bosses are hashing out a bumper deal for a 12 month contract for the actor, after his current one comes to end later this year.
Although his character is only 82, bosses are planning a major storyline to mark the occasion.
A source told the paper: "Bill is a huge part of Coronation Street and they know how much the fans adore him.
"They love the idea of marking his 90th birthday with a great storyline.
"Bill may be pushing 90 but he still has the energy, passion and talent that make him soap's greatest-ever actor."
The soap legend did have to take a break from the Cobbles earlier this year after contracting Covid-19.
Bill holds the world record for the longest continuous stint in a drama.
The star has been a character on the show since it first hit our screens in 1960. having been on Corrie since it started in 1960.
