Strictly Come Dancing duo Adam Peaty and Katya Jones impressed on Saturday night with their energetic Samba. On the BBC hit show, they performed to Faith by George Michael, with Adam sporting a tight-fitting pair of jeans that caught the attention of fans. Professional dancer Gary Edwards spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk and he was not happy with the spectacle.
Strictly fans have enjoyed seeing the couples give it their all on the dancefloor this year and the competition is heating up.
Olympian Adam Peaty has been one of the favourites to go all the way in the competition as he has shown he has plenty of talent.
The competitive couple did a stellar job in their Samba on Saturday night, and they left the judges in awe with Adam’s hip action.
However, world-renowned professional dancer and judge Gary Edwards was not keen on the tone of the performance.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the Dancing With The Stars expert said: “I was personally in shock from Adam and Katya, going back to the Samba with the hips.
“I just thought that whole situation…I mean it’s not Samba. That’s not how you move your hips in Samba anyway.
“And I just thought it was very un-Strictly, to be honest. When I was listening to the judges I was like OK, I can totally understand why there’s a lot of people saying ‘what’s going on with Strictly?’
“I just think the gyration of the hips goes beyond that. I know it’s an entertainment show and I say that in every interview.
“But I just didn’t find that entertaining. I just think that’s a line Strictly doesn’t need to go down.”
The professional Ballroom and Latin star explained how this was the first year he has disagreed with the judging panel.
He added: “That was the only thing, the focus on his hips gyrating, pumping backwards and forwards, for me.
“That was the only thing that really stood out. I will say that this is probably the first year that I have disagreed with the judges.
“It is always different because when you are watching it live, you are going to get a totally different perspective.
“The amount of times I have been on Dancing With The Stars live and I have judged it a certain way.
“Then we go to the afterparty and that’s when it’s broadcast and I see it, it might be completely different.
“So I totally understand there is a difference in live to TV.”
He said the pair could be in danger this week if they continue to go down the same daring root.
Adam and Katya came into the spotlight after their raunchy Argentine Tango as viewers were convinced they almost kissed at the end.
Both Adam, who is in a relationship, and his professional partner shut down the claims saying they were simply in character.
Speaking about their Samba in the most recent show, the judges praised the level of energy.
Craig Revel Horwood said: “I made myself laugh darling, I could see you working the technique, I could see that and really we shouldn’t see the technique working.
“But I commend you for that, but you had bounce and lovely stationary samba well done, really.”
Head judge Shirley Ballas commented: “Well, I thought it was absolutely fantastic in comparison to your Rumba, but you managed to stay in the pocket of the music.
“Your grounded, you listened to the music, I’m absolutely bowled over, I’m flawed, well done.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday on BBC One at 7.10pm
