A HEARTBROKEN family of a little girl killed in a car crash are calling for police to properly probe their daughter’s death.

Little Sharlotte-Sky Naglis died when walking home with her dad in Norton Green, Staffordshire, in June.

The six-year-old died instantly in the horrific incident, which happened the night before Father's Day.

The dad of the St Anne's Primary School’s pupil was injured in the crash and was not asked to provide a statement for a number of weeks after the tragedy on June 19.

Her family claim that despite the driver spending a number of weeks in hospital following the collision police are yet to interview him.

Staffordshire Police says it recognises it is "an upsetting and difficult time for all involved".

But a friend of the Naglis family told StokeonTrentLive: "It's been 15 weeks now since Sharlotte was knocked down and killed, but her family just don't feel like they're getting any answers from the police at all.

“We know the driver of the vehicle was injured and had been in hospital for some time, but that's no longer the case and yet, as far as we're being told, they're still to interview him.

"Losing Sharlotte in such a horrific way has torn them apart, but the stress of not knowing what's going on is adding to their pain immensely."

'COMPLEX INVESTIGATION'

A preliminary inquest was held earlier this month into her death, with Coroner Andrew Barkley expecting a "significant update" from cops on the progress of the investigation.

He said it was his understanding "police are involved in a detailed inquiry for a potential consideration of a case".

Staffordshire Police said: "Officers are in contact with Sharlotte’s family and we understand that this is an upsetting and difficult time for all involved.

“It is a serious and complex investigation and enquiries are continuing. We will provide updates once we are able to.”

After Sharlotte's death, her family paid tribute to her, describing her as "loved by everyone that met her".

In tribute to their little girl, they said: "Sharlotte just started her gymnastics classes which she loved and was shining so bright in.

“She was loved by everyone that met her, so caring and loving. Every night since she was born she would never sleep without holding her mum’s hand.

"There will never be another child like her for anyone who met her. She was taken so early from us and will never be forgotten.”
