Jeremy Vine has hit out at Prince Harry while admitting that he often sympathises with Meghan Markle, following their decision to step down as senior working royals.

Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan, 40, announced in January 2020 that they would no longer be working members of The Royal Family and instead would be living as private citizens in the United States.

Since their controversial announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made claims against the Mountbatten-Windsor family, claiming one relative raised concerns over the colour of their then-unborn son's skin colour.

Now, Channel 5's Jeremy Vine, 56, has waded in on the drama, believing that Harry occasionally has himself to blame.

Speaking to The Express, Jeremy noted that discussions surrounding the Sussexes can often be "divisive".

The broadcaster added: "I was always a massive fan of Meghan and some of the stuff recently has been trying for even her most ardent supporters.

"What I noticed is that if you mention Meghan and Harry the room just splits straightaway, it really does."

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant went on to say: "I don't like some of the commentaries on Meghan, I think it's just too harsh on her.

"I think Harry brings it on himself sometimes, I think they are obviously finding their way, I wish them well with it."

Jeremy went on to suggest that Meghan and Harry face a "tough road" as they carve out their new lives in California.

Since stepping down as working royals, the couple have signed deals with the likes of Netflix and Spotify to produce podcasts, children's films and documentaries.

Earlier this year, they sat down with Oprah Winfrey and took part in an explosive tell-all interview, during which they claimed members of the Royal Household denied Meghan access to mental health support.

Following the dramatic interview, Buckingham Palace made the rare move of issuing a statement addressing the situation.

A spokesperson said: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning."

The statement continued: "While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members."

Prince William also stated that the family were "very much not racist" in response to the allegations made by the Sussexes.
