TV legend Esther Rantzen, 81, has admitted she likes to garden topless. The television presenter opened up about this as she explained she enjoys “shocking” her family with her racy confessions.

Speaking in a chat with her daughter Rebecca Wilcox, Esther said she enjoys dressing comfortably when recording her radio show.

Apparently, this has got easier for the star in lockdown as everything went virtual.

However, she said of her daughter: “It makes her a bit nervous, because I love shocking her.

“I admitted, for example, the fact that I walked around the garden topless.

“I must say, the gardener was a little taken aback.”

Esther continued to the Daily Star Online: “I told her that I was a child of the 60s, but my daughter pointed out that this happened in the 80s, so I had no excuse.

“I wasn’t 80 then, mind you!”

The That’s Life presenter also admitted she wasn’t opposed to going on the Channel 4 series Naked Attraction either.

Esther and her daughter Rebecca present a radio show together on Boom Radio.

This sees the pair chat and share their favourite songs at 7pm on Sundays.

Esther’s topless admission comes after Charlie Dimmock recently claimed she was once told by the presenter to wear a bra.

The TV gardener often chose to not wear underwear when filming the show Ground Force as she found it uncomfortable.

However, Charlie revealed to The Independent: “TV presenter Esther Rantzen said to me, ‘You’ll be labelled the bra-less one for the rest of your life’.

“Ground Force was a long time ago, and I have to say, even now, people will bring it up. It is very silly.”

Elsewhere, Esther opened up to The Times about her recent move out of London.

The presenter revealed she had swapped the capital for Hampshire during lockdown.

She explained: “I sold my two-bedroom flat in northwest London at the start of the pandemic because the city felt intimidating.”

Esther admitted she can’t see herself heading back to London anytime soon either.

She added: “I retreated to my second home, a red-brick farmhouse in the New Forest in Hampshire.

“When my late husband, Desi [broadcaster and documentarian Desmond Wilcox], and I bought it 35 years ago it was slightly tumble-down.”
