Adam and Katy Rickitt first met when she interviewed him in what was supposed to be a 30-minute interview. The pair got on so well that their chat went on for almost six hours. The actor reminisced about the moment on Loose Women yesterday, telling viewers he rang his mum straight after to tell his mum he was going to marry her.

Despite his wishes coming true, Adam said that while it was love at first sight for him, he didn’t think it was for Katy.

Giving her say, she said she “panicked” as he was so forward at the time.

She told panellists: “The reason he says it was for me not for her, it actually was for me as well but…

“Because he told me pretty much straight away. ‘I love you’ and then introduced me to his mum within a week without telling me about it I almost slightly panicked a bit.

“I thought, ’Is he just saying this? Is this what he’s like?’”

But after they dated for a few more weeks, she added: “It became pretty apparent to me that he meant everything he said.”

The couple went on to the the knot in 2014 after three years together.

Speaking on the show, Adam also opened up about his infertility heartache and how he feared telling Katy he couldn’t give her children.

“I had zero fertility which was scary because to say to someone, ‘I’m not sure we’ll be able to have children’ was really nerve-wracking,” he told panellists.

The former Coronation Street star was diagnosed with autoimmune disorder when he was 22.

The condition is when your immune system mistakenly attacks your body. It can manifest in many ways and can affect male fertility.

Adam worried it could affect their relationship because Katy has a “very family orientated background”.

The couple have decided to not go through IVF and have accepted they wouldn’t be able to children.

He said: “I have the utmost respect for people who have children.

“We’re in a position where we can’t but it won’t make an impact on our lives.

“We thought, let’s experience things that other people might not be able to.”

“We have the dogs, we never feel like we’re missing out,” he added.

Katy added: “We had the opportunity to try out IVF… we sort of said, do we really want to go through this?

“We both love our careers and we can do things that we couldn’t usually.”

Adam’s wife works as a news correspondent for Good Morning Britain.

He rose to fame as a singer before stepping into the acting world and appearing on Coronation Street and Hollyoaks.
