STRICTLY Come Dancing's same-sex couple don't need to be gay to dance together, according to professional dancer Graziano Di Prima.
Boxer Nicola Adams made history last year when she danced with Katya Jones in the first all-female partnership.
But professional dancer Graziano Di Prima says sexuality won’t matter in future pairings – with straight celebs getting the chance to pair up this series.
Revealing he told bosses he wants to be in the next same-sex couple to compete, Graziano exclusively told The Sun: “ No, [they don't need to be gay].
”Being partnered in a same-sex couple for me would make sense.
"Dancing is for everyone. Anyone can dance.
"If they're going to give me a same-sex partner. I'm more than open and happy to start this process.
"Obviously the couple is made up of two people and as a pro you need to make sure to give the best of your knowledge and make them feel comfortable.
'You spend ten hours in one room.
"It's not easy because mentally you know Saturday is coming.
"And physically you know you are going to have cramp after one day.
"It's not easy at all, but that's why people love it because it's real.”
Strictly beat ITV’s Dancing on Ice in making history after The Sun revealed plans for two men to skate together.
Graziano danced with fellow pro Johannes Radebe in the show's first ever same-sex routine in November 2019.
Two months later, Steps singer Ian 'H' Watkins competed with professional ice skater Matt Evers on DOI.
Meanwhile the Strictly professionals' emotional dance during Emeli Sande's performance in the results show paved the way for the first same-sex pair to compete last series.
But 38-year-old Nicola – who has been dating girlfriend Ella Baig, 22, for three years – was forced out of the competition just three weeks in after testing positive for coronavirus.
Graziano joined Strictly in 2018 with presenter Vick Hope and finished in 12th place.
After the pandemic forced him off a live stage for more than a year, Graziano starred in Here Come the Boys at The London Palladium last month.
He hopes to rejoin the Strictly pro line-up again this year after missing out on a celebrity partner in 2020.
