MEGHAN and Harry announced the birth of their daughter Lilibet Diana.

The couple chose the name in honour of the Queen and Diana, Princess of Wales.

She is thought to be eighth in line to the throne, coming after her brother Archie, two.

But being in the royal line of succession does not guarantee a royal title.

Is Lilibet Diana a princess?

Lilibet Diana is not a princess.

King George V laid down the rules about who can and cannot be a princess in 1917.

He declared that great-grandchildren of the monarch will not be a prince or princess other than the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.

Prince William is the eldest son of Prince Charles, the current Prince of Wales. It means that his and Kate's eldest son is Prince George.

But as a great grandchild of the monarch, and from the Prince of Wales' younger son, Lilibet Diana is not yet a princess.

What is her title?

Lilibet Diana does not yet have a title automatically.

Is Archie a prince?

Just like Lilibet Diana, Archie is not a prince.

But they both will get titles when Queen Elizabeth's reign is over.

When Prince Charles becomes King, Harry and Meghan's children will go from being the monarch's great grandchildren to the monarch's grandchildren.

It means at that moment they both can get the title and become Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

What did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry say about Archie not being a Prince?

Meghan told Oprah Winfrey the Royal Family did not want Archie to be a prince – despite having said before it was a decision she made for him to have a normal life.

She told Oprah:  "They were saying they didn't want him to be a prince or princess, not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol.”

Some commentators have cast doubt on these claims because of the royal protocol dictating that the monarch's great grandchildren are not given titles.

And Meghan did mention the protocol in the famed interview – showing that she was aware of it.

She referenced a "George V or George VI convention" and said it meant Archie would become a prince "when Harry's dad becomes king".

Buckingham Palace did not comment on her claims.
