Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took credit Wednesday for President Biden’s newly unveiled $2 trillion set of environmental policies, which include eliminating coal, oil and natural gas as electricity sources by 2035.

“It’s almost as if we helped shape the platform,” Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wrote in a tweet, followed by a winking face emoji.

The tweet was in response to NBC News reporter Geoff Bennett, who noted the similarities between the Biden’s executive orders and Democratic socialist AOC’s “Green New Deal” proposal Wednesday.

“It’s striking how much of Biden’s climate executive actions reflect major elements of the Green New Deal — tackling climate change while addressing economic/racial injustice — without actually *being the Green New Deal. Some political sleight of hand,” Bennett wrote on the social media platform.

On Wednesday, Biden signed a series of executive actions related to climate change and pitched a slew of new policies, including promoting energy-efficient cars and homes, as a boon to the workforce.

There is worry, however, that the efforts will result in job losses in other sectors, such as coal.

“Today is climate day at the White House, which means that today is jobs day at the White House,” Biden said before signing an executive order “to meet the climate crisis for American jobs and American engineering.”

Biden did not directly address the anticipated job losses from moving toward renewable energy sources for cars and electricity, but tried to reframe the debate as an economic opportunity.

Climate policy has been at the forefront of AOC’s legislative efforts, most notably through the Green New Deal and serving on the climate panel of the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Forces.

Those task forces were created to combine the platforms of progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Biden, after the latter secured the Democratic presidential nomination.

The task forces did not endorse the Green New Deal.

The Democratic socialist also supports a nationwide ban on fracking and has introduced legislation on the topic. Fracking is something else Biden said he does not back.
