Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) has destroyed the lives of many in EastEnders after abusing then killing his long suffering wife – and mother of his children – Chantelle in brutal and heart wrenching scenes.

As he has tried to get life back on track and cover his violence, Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White) discovered his horrific true nature and as she pledged to expose him, she fought back against him but he overpowered and murdered her.

The Carters are unaware that Tina is dead – as they believe she is on the run after being suspected of attacking Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

Gray disposed of Tina’s body and even had the audacity to seep in the praise from Shirley (Linda Henry) for everything he has done for her and Tina.

But EastEnders boss Jon Sen has revealed that a comeuppance is nigh for the character – but can he be caught before he kills again?

He said: ‘One of the big moments of last year was the death of Chantelle and everybody’s asking the question of when Gray will receive his comeuppance.

‘The soap Gods never forgive something like that and we need to see Gray pay, but I’m going to keep when that’ll happen close to my chest but it’s something we’ve talked about a lot.’

A spokesperson added: ‘Darkness simmers under the surface of Albert Square as Gray covers up another murder.

‘As the truth is left undiscovered by any living soul in Walford for now  –  will he get his comeuppance before he strikes again?’

While he is on the loose, Gray remains dangerously unpredictable – is Shirley safe as she continues to live with him, oblivious that he killed her sister – and his own wife?
