BBC show Mrs Brown’s Boys star Gary Hollywood has branded the show “murky”.
The actor, 41, quit his role as Dino Doyle in the autumn after years of tension behind the scenes.
In a new interview, he has declared he is glad to be off the show.
He said: “I’m getting on with my life. I’m out of the show now and to be honest, I am glad in a sense.
“I feel free from all the murkiness and what it is becoming.”
Mrs Brown’s Boys was back on the box last night with a Christmas Day special.
It is the first episode to air since Gary quit.
He said: “It’s very strange to not be on the show after 10 years of doing Christmas specials. People have been very supportive and asking if I’m okay.
“Thank god I have got my family. It’s all positive things for me now. That’s what I’m focusing on.
“I’m going to have the best new year. I have planned the future with my management.”
Gary has been offered a string of lucrative TV deals since it emerged he has left the show.
Gary’s exit came after a row over pay.

It is devastating for him that his time with the cast has ended on a sour note.
He said: “We have all grown up together. We have shared in success. So I don’t know why this had to turn out dirty and murky. It feels like a bad divorce.”
Gary is taking legal action against show boss Brendan O’Carroll, 65, and the BBC.
It is set to go to a tribunal.
He said: “I feel I wasn’t being paid equally and I wasn’t being given an explanation for decisions. When I tried to resolve it, nothing was done. I was just disregarded.
“But I won’t put up with it any more. I won’t be treated like that. This has gone too far. They shouldn’t do this to people.
“I am taking legal action. The papers have been lodged for a tribunal and the process has now started.”
A BBC spokeswoman declined to comment on Gary’s allegations and a representative for Mrs Brown’s Boys said: “No comment.”
