Carol Kirkwood disagrees with Louise Minchin over Christmas
Louise Minchin, 52, has been off-air while she rests her poorly foot after an incident that occurred a year and a half ago came back to bite her. The BBC Breakfast presenter revealed not so long ago that she had suffered a painful injury while training for the gruelling Norseman triathlon and has had to undergo surgery, which has seen her take a leave of absence from the show.
What an idiot. No wonder it was sore

But even though she’s on the road to recovery now, she branded herself an “idiot” for not taking it seriously in the first place.
Louise has long been a fitness fanatic so to be forced to put her feet up and rest instead of going for a run left her feeling pretty down in the dumps.
She spoke of her injury in a recent article, where she recalled the fall and how she should have seeked medical attention straight away.
The annual Norwegian extreme challenge is renowned for its tough regime, so Louise took to Snowdon to train.

With stunning scenery and breathtaking views, she remembered feeling on top of the world as she finished, until the decent left her in agony.
“I loved every minute, right up until the moment when we had finished and started to walk and, I tripped on the pavement, and felt something in my foot rip as my ankle crumpled under me,” she wrote.
“It was agony, and I felt sick with pain as I hobbled back to the car.”
Louise admitted she “knew it was bad” but was “determined” it wouldn’t stop all her hard work for the main event.
“Instead of seeing a doctor I wrapped it, iced it, took some painkillers, and stopped running for three weeks before Norseman,” the BBC star explained.
“It worked, and although it was tough, I finished the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and marathon, limping but ecstatic at the sense of achievement.”
She continued: “After that, my foot clearly wasn’t fixed but I keep on going from one event to another, always finding an excuse not to get it checked.
“I did a further three ultra-events before finally, after a challenging 26.2 miles on the Sandstone Trail, went to the doctor.

“An X-ray and MRI confirmed that a year and a half earlier I had broken a bone in my foot and also snapped an ankle ligament. What an idiot.
“No wonder it was sore.”
Despite her pain and boredom of having to put her feet up, the presenter admitted she wouldn’t change the way things turned out.
“If I hadn’t run through my injury, I may never have been able to do Norseman, and memories of that day,” she added in her article for Cheshire Life.
“The determination and resilience I had to draw on to get through it, helped me immeasurably during those long coronavirus affected months.”
Louise noted that she has a few things planned for 2021 including the London Marathon, but acknowledged she’s going to have to learn to walk again before she can run and “for once in my life take things slowly”.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am one BBC One.
