WEST HAM can get Lyon skipper Marcelo for free next summer – after almost landing him for £20million in January.

The Brazilian centre-half, 33, was desperate for a move to London earlier this year.

And he was edging close to a switch before the plans fell through.

Marcelo produced some super showings for Lyon in the Champions League last season.

The defender was instrumental in helping dump Manchester City out in the quarter-finals.

But the Brazilian is keen for a fresh start in the Premier League.

And with his current contract set to expire, Hammers boss David Moyes can snap him up for nothing at the end of the season.

A source close to Marcelo said: "A number of clubs are interested.

"But there was a good feeling about West Ham from the last time they spoke.

“It's a great opportunity."

Marcelo has wanted to play in England for some time.

A Premier League stint would complete a career which has seen him enjoy spells in Brazil, Poland, Holland, Germany and Turkey before moving to France in 2017.

Marcelo has played for the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Besiktas and Hannover during his career, having started off at Santos.

All in all, the Brazilian has played over 500 club games during his career and won four Under-20 caps for his nation.
