The reins on the Jets defense have been handed over to Frank Bush.

After Gregg Williams was fired Monday, the Jets named Bush the interim defensive coordinator for the final four games of the season. The 57-year-old had served as assistant head coach defense/inside linebackers coach since 2019, coming with head coach Adam Gase from Miami after serving the same role for two years with the Dolphins.

Bush was previously the defensive coordinator for the Texans for two seasons in 2009-2010.

“With Frank Bush and the rest of the coaches, I know and we’re all confident in the fact that they’re going to approach this work how they have been approaching it,” defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi said Monday. “Try to be as detailed as possible, try to work on the things that we need to work on, try to build on our strengths and try to make our weaknesses stronger. I don’t see any lapses in the aggression in how we’re going to approach each week.”

Bush, a one-time fifth-round pick out of North Carolina State, played linebacker for the Houston Oilers from 1985-1986, but his playing career ended when he was diagnosed with a narrow spinal canal. He later became a scout and then began his coaching career in 1993.
