Coronation Street: Sally Metcalfe wears mask in Dev's shop

Sally (played by Sally Dynevor) and Tim (Joe Duttine) have been focussed on getting justice for Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) in recent weeks on Coronation Street after they discovered Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) has been abusing her and that is why she attacked him. The ITV soap stalwart’s husband has turned his back on his father and subsequently lost his chance to speak in court after punching the villain in recent episodes. With Alya Nazir’s (Sair Khan) grandmother being found not guilty by the jury, the 60th-anniversary instalments will step-up a gear as the repercussions of the plot twist leads to danger. However, will a beloved character be meeting their demise?

By the time it comes to the end of the landmark week on the weeknight serial drama, Geoff will be getting his revenge over his wife’s freedom.

The likes of Sally and Tim will be pleased to see Yasmeen back on the cobbles but it seems Alya will want one last showdown with the villain.

A fire will engulf Number Six as the latter’s step-grandfather strikes a match after dousing petrol all around the property.

With no chance of escape, both characters will head to the roof and it won’t be long until the resident of Weatherfield realises what’s going on.

Known for being fiercely protective, Sally’s husband could attempt to save his step-mother’s granddaughter as is father completely loses control.

Unfortunately, saving Alya could cost Tim his own life as it has been hinted the roof of Number Six will collapse as the fire takes its toll.

Whereas Yasmeen’s granddaughter might be freed from her peril, Sally’s husband might have to try to run back in to save Geoff.

At the moment the house is destroyed, his father could be killed and after the dust has settled, Tim could decide to look around the property to say goodbye to the villain some days later, only for the property to be destroyed whilst he’s still inside.

Teasing one such storyline twist, executive producer Iain MacLeod hinted an incident will have huge consequences going into the New Year.

A really shocking incident arrives

The soap boss explained of the show’s future: “There’s one story in particular that I can’t really talk too much about.

“Towards the back of the week, something massive happens that starts this avalanche of drama and catastrophe across the cobbles that I think the audience will be really surprised by.

“You think you’re watching a week that’s about one set of things and suddenly boom, a really shocking incident arrives from nowhere and you think, ‘Wow’.

“We were really keen that the 60th week didn’t feel like the end of loads of stuff but also felt like the beginnings of what we were gonna do for 2021 and it really does.”

“It’s exciting stuff… Big anniversary weeks like we have are best when they’re the launchpad for new stuff rather than being a little standalone bubble of nostalgia,” Iain told The Sun.

Having been on the soap for so long, seeing Sally struggling with the loss of her husband could be one of the biggest storylines for 2021 or trying to help him with what happened on the night of the fire.

Recently, actress Sally, 57, has spoken out on her character’s daughters Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) and Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) making a return.

With their mother going through one of the darkest moments of her life, the sisters could decide they need to make a comeback.

“It does feel very strange them not being there. In the back of my mind I’m always waiting for them to come back,” the soap star told ITV’s Lorraine.

“I always think Sophie and Rosie will be back very, very soon because it’s kinda not the same without having my girls,” she added.

Both characters have been present on the cobbles during their mother’s marriage to her husband Tim and have built a relationship with him.

Will they be as devastated as Sally to discover the hero died trying to save his villainous father Geoff or at least saw the latter perish in the fire?

Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on ITV.
