CORONATION Street’s 60th anniversary will have a massive shocking incident that will rock the cobbles, boss Iain Macleod has revealed.

The executive producer has teased a major development coming to the cobbles during the explosive 60th anniversary week episodes.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Iain said: “Big anniversary weeks like we have are best when they’re the launchpad for new stuff rather than being a little standalone bubble of nostalgia.

“We’ve been really careful that the 60th anniversary week lights the fuse on loads of new stuff.

“There’s one story in particular that I can’t really talk too much about…

“Towards the back of the week something massive happens that starts this avalanche of drama and catastrophe across the cobbles that I think the audience will be really surprised by.

“You think you’re watching a week that’s about one set of things and suddenly boom, a really shocking incident arrives from nowhere and you think, ‘Wow.’

“We were really keen that the 60th week didn’t feel like the end of loads of stuff but also felt like the beginnings of what we were gonna do for 2021 and it really does. It’s exciting stuff.”

The soap has already revealed the three major storylines that will dominate the week of hour-long special episodes.

Yasmeen Nazir’s attempted murder trial concludes with the verdict coming in.

It sparks a dramatic rooftop battle between her abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe and her granddaughter Alya Nazir after he tries to burn her alive.

Scheming Ray Crosby and Debbie Webster’s plans to bulldoze half the cobbles are also revealed with the residents mounting a protest to stop them.

Peter Barlow hits the bottle again, devastated by Carla Connor's infidelity as the secret of who with threatens to be exposed.

And the law might be about to catch up with Gary Windass. He killed Rick Neelan in self-defence in June 2019 and buried the body.

It looked like he got away with it – until now. His ex Sarah Platt has known about the killing for months and finally takes it to the police.

Gary is left shaken when he finds out police are searching the scene of the crime.
