Fans have been racking their brains trying to decipher the secret double act behind the Snow Owls since their debut in The Masked Singer’s season four premiere. As this week’s episode wrapped up on Fox, the audience and judges alike were stunned by the US iteration’s first double elimination.

Season four of The Masked Singer reached its inevitable double-elimination this week when the Snow Owls were finally booted from the competition.

The unfortunate duet weren’t quite able to beat the impressive vocal stylings of the Sun as she smashed the competition once again with her version of Janis Joplin’s Piece of My Heart.

The Snow Owls took a chance by taking on challenging duet The Prayer by Andrea Bocelli & Celine Dion, but found themselves up against Popcorn in this week’s smackdown.

Sadly, one of this series’ most intriguing competitors failed to impress and fans witnessed the American version of The Masked Singer’s first ever double elimination.

The milestone was reached earlier this year by the UK series when both Duck (Skin) and the Unicorn (Jake Shears) were unmasked.

However, this week’s elimination didn’t come as much of a surprise as the celebrity duo technically formed the same masked competitor.

As their second performance, another Celine Dion number Because You Loved Me, was deemed the weakest, it was the Snow Owls’ turn to fly home.

Baffling most fans, husband and wife pair Lisa Hartman Black and Clint Black were revealed as the feathered crooners.

The judges were also stumped, although long-standing panellist Nicole Scherzinger managed to guess correctly.

Despite being country staples since the 90s, their appearance went over the heads of most of The Masked Singer’s younger viewers.

The audience soon voiced their reactions on social media, with some admitting the Snow Owls were probably among this year’s more challenging celebrities to identify.

One fan confessed: “Don’t know much about country music so I have no idea who these people are.”

While another said: “Ooo first double unmasking!!! #SnowOwlsMask are: Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black. Never heard of them but they were amazing!!!”

As country music pros, the Snow Owls still managed to put on a great show, leaving some sections of the audience disappointed they had been eliminated so soon.

Another viewer wrote: “Sad to see the Snow Owls go, since they were one of my favorites.”

More of season four is still to come, and many fans are convinced yet another country star could be revealed.

After yet another superb performance, the Sun is quickly becoming one of the favourites to win this year’s competition.

However, as her time on season four continues, the audience is becoming more and more convinced the golden cowl is hiding country superstar LeAnn Rimes.

Next week is the last round for Group B, so the Sun is still sitting pretty until the last six contestants come face-to-face in the Semi-Finals.
